Welcome to Castle Ravenloft
Mellora’s life was marked by an early tragedy. She doesn’t remember much about the “incident”, as she’ll refer to it these days, other than the memory of flames crackling all around her and the weird feeling of being embraced by the fire, if that was at all possible. It was the night of her sixth birthday. By the time she came to her senses, it was days later and, as she learned from the priests that had been caring for her, her house had burned down and her entire family been slaughtered by an evil entity. With the years, some bits and fragments of that night would come back to haunt her nightmares, and she would quickly learned that the tragedy had happened by her hands, but not of her own volition. An entity had possessed her, murdered her family and spared her in the end. She never learned the reason why, but it’s a question she was also never able to stop asking herself. Upon hearing of the story, a few cultists of Kossuth showed up and claimed the child, who had no other family. She was taken to the main temple in Thay and raised by the clergy, as if the experience of surviving the fire had made her some sort of “chosen one”. With time, Mellora learned to embrace the faith in Kossuth and the powers her god conceded his followers as a way to deal with her trauma, becoming strong. A fervorous believer, she was quickly invited to join the circle of priests, passing through the ritual of walking on coals. After that, willing to know her full potential, the upper clergy quickly decided to make Mellora a Brazier and encourage her to go out there in the world to do what she could to further the cause of the Firelord. Sheltered and slightly lost out, leaving the place she had been raised in and where she had lived her entire life was definitely a challenge, she stepped out there… trying to find her place in the world and, hopefully, a way to become strong enough to finally deal with her traumas.
